January 10 - Dancing a Jig

On Sunday afternoon, we all went to a kids traditional Irish music (called "Trad" here) session. I took some video clips to show you (with persmisson from Tola Custy, the fiddler). The other musicians were Liz Kane (fiddle) , Jimmy Fitzgerlad (guitar), Daire O'Neill (flute and tin whistle), and Sean Nos Dancer, Emma O'Sullivan.

We got a little education on Irish music and dancing. A jig can be recognized by saying "Rashers and Sausages" to the beat. (Rashers is the word here for bacon). To recognize a reel, say "BlackandDecker" - and you may have to say it really fast!

I'll try to upload more videos onto the next few blogs (they take a long time to upload). For now, I'll start with these two. Aaron and Silas are right in front of me. This first clip will give new meaning the the phrase "gettin' jiggy with it" as it is a jig! Watch Aaron :)

Next, the boys get a little Irish dance lesson. They got up and moved across the stage before I could grab them, so now they are on the far opposite side.

Hopefully, more to come on the next blog!
